Thermoformed Pendant Light

A vacuum-formed pendant shade developed from industrial design sketching through forming tooling, surface finishing, and a finished hanging fixture.

Andbru designed this pendant as a thermoforming program: explore the shade in sketch form, build a forming buck with correct draft, pull the shell, then finish and assemble it into a hanging light. The selected form is a tapered, rounded-square shade with recessed face panels and a notched rim — a geometry that reads clearly when lit and stays practical to form.

Concept work started with industrial design sketching — multiple shade families explored for light direction, silhouette, and moldability — before locking a direction for tooling. The vacuum-forming buck was prepared for clean draw and release; secondary finishing brought the shell to a bronze metallic surface with a contrasting interior.

The finished fixture demonstrates Andbru’s thermoforming capability end to end: design for form, tool for process, finish for product.
